I graduated from Oxford University in 2018 with a First Class degree in Biochemistry. Previously I attended a state school where I achieved 8A*s and 5As at GCSEs then went on to gain 5 As at AS level and 3 A*s in Biology, Chemistry and Maths A Level. I also completed an Extended Project researching the Biochemistry of Cancer where I achieved an A grade.
For help with interview preparation the sessions will include a thorough breakdown of the personal statement such that the student is confident on all topics mentioned. Mock interviews will cover a wide range of topics, questions will begin broad and continue to a depth that will challenge the students ability to think critically and with initiative, skills necessary for studying at top universities. Sessions can also be college-specific and will include tips and tricks to maximise the students performance during the real interviews. For personal statement mentoring I will work with the student both online and offline to create, develop and perfect a personal statement suitable for the subject and university of their choosing. Besides the structuring and writing of the document the sessions will usually also include suggestions and tuition of relevant scientific journals to ensure a in-depth and unique document. For subject-based tutorials, sessions involve breaking down challenging course theory into understandable ideas so students can better engage with their syllabus. I believe partaking in discussion and independent thinking is a key part to learning and retaining new information. During a tutorial I encourage students to voice any questions and thoughts they have, this is to not only ensure they are grasping the new information but also to enhance their understanding. Any homework set is to reinforce ideas and concepts learnt during the tutorial and will be fully marked in time for the next session.
I led both group and one-on-one tutorials for A level students in Maths, Biology and Chemistry in various schools in Oxford throughout my 4 years of study. Each year from October through December I have been providing mock interviews for prospective Oxbridge students in subjects including Biochemistry, Medicine, Biomedicine, Natural Sciences, Pharmacology, Nutritional Science and Chemistry. I have mentored 5 students on Personal Statement writing for subjects including Biochemistry, Natural Sciences, Medical Sciences and Pharmacology.
I am in the Oxford Underwater Hockey team. I also play for the Oxford Kayaking and Canoe Polo society. During A-levels I attended Spanish night classes in order to improve my language skills and through this I organised and took part in a Spanish exchange. I have gained Gold, silver and bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards, obtaining valuable team working and leadership experience. I have a powerboat level 2 qualification and was an active member of the Explorer Scouts for four years.
